Freight by Water announces Mission Statement

500 tonnes of limestone being taken by barge, saving 20 lorry journeys
Freight by Water promotes the increased use of short sea, coastal and inland waterways for the transport of freight in order to achieve modal shift in the UK for the benefit of the environment and the economy.
Our objectives are to:
Identify, research, promote and stimulate demand for water freight
Remove barriers and resolve difficulties through lobbying and constructive intervention
Raise awareness that water freight has the lowest carbon footprint compared to other modes
Engage with the land-use planning system at all levels to safeguard appropriate cargo carrying and cargo handling infrastructure.
Provide a database detailing the availability of ports, wharves and other water freight related opportunities and services
Promote the effectiveness and use of grants designed to assist modal shift
To represent collectively the interests of the water freight industry
